CES 2011 SiliconDust HDHomeRun PRIME, Dual and MAC Tuners

I spent a few minutes with Jason Ludka over at the SiliconDust booth watching cable TV on the HDHomeRun PRIME CableCARD tuner yesterday. In addition to the PRIME CableCARD tuner, SiliconDust has three new digital tuners for 2011. Check out some of the pictures and specs from the booth of these very compact tuners!

SiliconDust HDHomeRun PRIME

I could NOT get Jason to give me a release date but I am going back again today to get all up in his business to get a ship date!

Jason opened up the HDHomeRun PRIME case and showed me the internals. You can see the multi-stream CableCARD on the right side.

The PRIME is about the size of an existing SD tuner.

The PRIME is silent and has plenty of ventilation.

HDHomeRun DUAL

The new line of tuners from SiliconDust are compact but powerful units. With two digital tuners in each you can:

  • Watch TV from any computer on your network
  • Easily setup Windows Media Center
  • Record full 1080i broadcast resolution programs
  • Add additional units as needed

These DUALs are small and will easy to hide! As you can see with the picture from the booth the three new units are almost identical.

On the back you have connections for power, Ethernet and signal.

This is the standard DUAL unit.

This is the MAC version which is just a white version on the regular DUAL.

They also have a DVB-T version for my brother Andrew Edney.

I am heading back over there this morning to get more information, and possible some video, so look for more information later today. Here is a picture of the back of the brochure. Sorry, not going to retype all that!

Thank you to Jason at SiliconDust for taking the time to talk with me.

Nice, looks like they all have internal splitters now! Tim, anything on a rumored 6 tuner model? Yhanks

OK, so the difference between last years dual tuner box is that there is only 1 RG cable entry for both tuners ? and the box is smaller.

    • Holt

It better work pretty good right since they have had so long to work the bugs out.

Thanks for the update Tim. If you don't want to wait for the Dual, the current model has gone as low as $80 plus free shipping on Newegg recently which was as good as their Black Friday deal. New, not refurbished. Clearing out stock for these I suppose. Mine should be here today. It seems the functionality is the same with a better form factor. If your looking for a deal and don't mind using the splitter, this may be for you. The current model lets you do ATSC on one tuner and Clear QAM on the other if you want. With the Dual, you'll have to choose between the two. Something to keep in mind for those looking to do a Media Center setup.

The HR-Prime tease has gone on long enough… hey it's Vegas I'm sure you can find a few thick fellas to persuade Jason to cough up the release date.

  • Travis

With the failed effort last year for a holiday release, I thought for sure they'd have it ready by CES. Oh well. Thanks for an update. Press them hard for a release date!
