The installation of Windows Home Server 2011 has only a few basic requirements.

Windows Home Server 2011 is a 64-bit only operating system.

You can install the server software either manually or unattended.

System Requirements

  • 1.4 GHz x64 processor
  • 2 GB RAM
  • At least one 160 GB (or larger) hard drive
  • NTFS is the only supported file system

Supported networking configuration:

  1. Your server computer must be connected to a router via a network cable
  2. Windows Home Server works best with a UPnP certified device, but it is not required
  3. The router works best in the 192.168.x.x subnet, but it is not required

  1. Why bother with WHS 2011? Without Drive Extender, three of four key technologies in WHS are removed: use any storage type, data redundancy, single shared pool of storage.

    WHS 2011 is not for me.

  2. Nice video. Mist the part that you can change workgroupname. Else you end up with workgroup and that can not be changed.

    •You can… Only during setup…

    When the setup gets to the part where you are asked to name it, simply hit SHIFT-F10
    you'll get a command prompt.
    Type "control system" and press enter
    use the system control panel that pops up to change the workgroup name but leave the server name and everything else alone.
    close the window, don't reboot the system. Continue with the setup, and once it's all going you'll have that workgroup name and the certificates in certificate services will be named properly too so you don't have to re-build that junk after the fact, which is possible as well but a real PITA.

    I have downloaded the WHS 2011 RC ISO, but lack of the PRODUCT KEY for me to INSTALL.
