New HP TouchPad OTA Update Coming Soon

According to CNET, there is a new OTA coming to the HP TouchPad soon.

Here is what CNET were told:

We expect that HP TouchPad owners can look forward to an over-the-air update that will enhance the platform and add functionality and a growing applications catalog,” an HP spokesperson told CNET today in response to an e-mail query. HP would not elaborate on what those enhancements would be.

HP also said that it is seeing “huge spikes in activations and between 3-5X downloads of apps” as a result of the fire sale launched on August 19.

The most interesting comment was this:

“HP is fully committed to the ongoing support and service of customers who purchased webOS devices…We plan to continue to investigate the best ways to leverage WebOS software and grow the applications,” the spokesperson said.

Ok, so HP are fully committed to an OS that only runs on two devices, both of which they discontinued within weeks of being launched and have no plans to launch any more? I’m sorry, but that sounds a little silly to me!

So let’s see what happens then!

    Andrew I am going to check the couches for spare change. You check too…maybe we can come up with enough to buy WebOS from HP and expand Firebird into hardware!

      Maybe we should ask the readers to club together and we could all buy it :-)

    I am anticipating getting my unit and using it. I expect it to be the best $149 tech buy that I’ve had…I certainly can’t go wrong. This product was not this bad…just goes to prove that you need lower pricing to seize market share from Cupertino in this space.

      I just dont see it myself – if, and thats a BIG if HP brought the TouchPad back, it would be $500 again and no one would buy it.

      Let’s be honest, the only reason anyone actually bought one was because it was $100!

    Yea, $99/$149 is too low for what you get. Clearly they need to sell for less than Apple does. Where the sweet spot lies is anyone’s guess, but I can’t see HP restarting this business. If they do, Leo is toast.

    I have had mine for a few days now and had the credit back on my card. I am loving it at present. I now have two tablets of my own – the Advent Vega android and the HP Touchpad, plus access to two more at work – the Blackberry Playbook and a Viewsonic Win 7 / Android x86 hybrid. I find the HP the easiest of all of them to use.

    I’ll let you know if any updates come along. It picked up the 3.0.0 to 3.0.2 soon after I first fired it up.
