WD Sentinel DX4000 Set Up

The set up of the WD Sentinel was easy and took less than 15 minutes. Since the storage drives are already configured from the factory no drive formatting or other changes are required. Connect the server to your network, plug it in and follow the Quick Start Guide. The front display will even keep you informed of your status during set up.

The client connector was easy to set up and just required a browser to connect to start the installation process.

Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Dashboard

The Dashboard is very similar to the WHS 2011 Dashboard but has some WD specific customizations. You can register your WD Sentinel from inside the Dashboard and even sign up for the WS Guardian Services. The Dashboard looks clean and works very well.

The Dashboard also shows the hard drive configuration. Remember that since the drives are in RAID from the factory you will not have to worry about the drive configuration.

Among the Server Dashboard basics such as User management, Computers and Backups and Add-Ins, WD has made some nice changes. The WD customization continues with the Monitor tab. The Monitor tab allows you to see your drive status, CPU temps, fan speeds and PSU functionality. This Monitor tab is really cool and eliminates the need for additional software outside of the Dashboard.
