Today Sonos has released an update to its software, taking it to 3.6.1, and they have emailed all their customers to advise them to update due to some security issues.
Here is what Sonos emailed:
At Sonos, protecting our customer’s data and personal information is a top priority. Today we have released a security enhancement to your Sonos Wireless HiFi System – Sonos 3.6.1 software. Please update your system as soon as possible. To update, simply go to System Settings on any Sonos Controller and select Online Updates.
This update fixes a bug that, in rare cases, could allow someone to access the usernames and passwords of services used on your Sonos. Currently, we are not aware of any customer data being compromised. If you have any evidence that your account credentials were inappropriately accessed please contact Sonos customer service at http://www.sonos.com/support.
In addition to updating your Sonos with this security enhancement, it’s always good practice to use strong and different passwords for your online accounts.
Before updating, be sure to save any queues you wish to keep.
So if you have a Sonos device, update now!
