Last week we told you that it was time to say goodbye to Using Windows Home Server. Well now it’s time to say hello to Connected Digital World.
So over the weekend the hard part took place, the site was moved to its new home and all the links and backend work was completed.
There is still a lot to do, and some tidying up to finish before we move on to the next stage.
Let us know what you think and if you find any problems.
And also let us know if you want to see something on the site we don’t do yet!
Good move.. whs is dying a slow death.. which is very sad cause it could easily have been the android of the home server world… oh well…
maybe someone else will manage it better.. anyway.. good luck with the new site.. will continue to follow

I fully understand why you wish to move to a more generic name, given that only a small percentage of your posts are now about WHS. I often thought you shoudl do so.
However, disparaging Microsoft over WHS is not helpful. WHS remains an excellent product with a lot of loyal users, but it is not a mainstream product and will only ever appeal to a limited number of users. I would not therefore expect Microsoft to invest large amounts in its develpment, given the pressure and competition from Apple, but we do need them to continue maintaining and supporting WHS and giving it the occassional major upgrade, as they have done with the latest version. If too many people disparage WHS, Microsft may decide to drop the product, which would be very sad, given that there is no real server alternative. Neither Linux nor SBS really fit the requirement for eas of use by someone without an IT background. Encouraging Microsft is in the interests of all WHS users.
Pretty sure no one was ‘disparaging Microsoft’, merely making the point that MS obviously doesn’t care that much about WHS anymore. It may be a niche product, but along with Media Center it is one that happens to be very much loved by more vocal members of the community, myself included. Once they ignore that sector, they lose the game, entirely.
John, I am certainly not disparaging Microsoft over WHS, far from it. I am still a WHS MVP will Microsoft and I still do everything I can in and out of the community to promote WHS whenever and wherever possible. I engage with MS on a regular basis as part of my MVP, and I am certainly not going to abandon it.
The problem is that if MS dont get behind it, which they havent for this version, then its very difficult to get people interested in it.
I want the product to continue to a V3, however those sorts of decisions are based on how well the product sells, and the fact the MS dont put any marketing or effort behind this version (they did with V1 though) means that people are likely to stay with V1, meaning 2011 doesnt sell well and may not warrant further development.
My decision around changing the site name is because there isnt enough WHS news alone to keep the name. We cover a lot of other technology and gadgets, far more now than we ever did before, so it was time to reflect that in the site.
You will see that currently WHS still holds pride of place on the front page of the site though 🙂
