As I write this, I am using the Music Station to stream my Christmas music. Music Station is much-improved. I’ll play around with the Video and Photo solutions as well and advise in a future article.
An issue with TurboNAS has been the availability of compatible cameras in Surveillance Station. With this release, QNAP is transitioning updates to camera support to Surveillance Station Pro, which comes with support for one camera. A license for each subsequent camera, at $55 per camera, is required to add more cameras. I’m not surprised here as I expect that support for additional cameras is resource intensive and most heavy users of this feature are likely business, but this change will likely cause some heartburn for existing users of that solution. To add Surveillance Pro, download the QPKG from inside your Admin webpages, and understand that this will replace the stock Surveillance Station. If you decide that you don’t like the update, uninstall the QPKG and you can revert, but don’t expect more updates to the legacy surveillance solution.
Check out the details of the 3.8 updates here.
If you are running TurboNAS on a compatible unit, go ahead and upgrade!
