Nokia has now opened up their Drive+ Beta navigation program to all Windows Phone 8 devices. Up until now, this navigation app was limited to Nokia handsets only; now all Windows Phone 8 handsets will be able to run this app. This last weekend, my family took a road trip to Chicago; we ran this app on my daughter’s Lumia 822 on the way back from Chicago. It performed admirably, essentially as fast as the on-board navigation system in my Jeep, and with the added speed limit data, my daughter was able to gently remind me of the speed limits on the roads that we travelled. Now owners of other Windows Phone 8 handsets will have the opportunity to run this one! Here is the blog post from Microsoft:
Nokia’s turn-by-turn app Drive+ Beta is now available on more Windows Phones
Starting today, Microsoft and Nokia are making the beta of Nokia Drive+, the company’s turn-by-turn navigation app, available for free to all Windows Phone 8 customers in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. Download it from the Windows Phone Store.
The app remains in beta as the team fine tunes the customer experience. In the meantime, you can access full turn-by-turn voice-guided navigation, offline maps, speed limit warnings, and conveniences such as day and night modes. With today’s release, the team is looking forward to hearing from even more Windows Phone customers through the app’s “feedback” tab, to help make it even better. Give it a try and let them know what you think. Learn more about Nokia Drive+ Beta .
If you are running an HTC or other Window 8 device and are in the US, UK or Canada, go ahead and add this to your phone!
