Microsoft pushed a firmware update intended to improve Wi-Fi performance, as well as other bug fixes, to Surface RT devices yesterday. In addition, they pushed updates to Windows RT and IE10. I noticed two waves of updates: first, a 99.8MB firmware update, and then ten updates related to Windows RT and IE10, including an update to the flash player in the browser. Microsoft had this to say about the update:
The February update, which will be available later today, includes improved Surface Wi-Fi reliability, connectivity in various scenarios, and performance improvements:
- This release will address several ‘Limited’ Wi-Fi connections issues.
- Contains driver updates improving performance with Windows, Volume and Power buttons
If you are sporting a Surface RT, go ahead and get your updates. I noticed that the speakers were a bit louder myself. And if you are running another Windows RT device, you have Windows RT and IE10 updates waiting for you…so go ahead and run Windows Update!
These updates did exactly what they said they would do. Microsoft keep up the good work.
