Lacie 5big NAS Pro Review Part One: Basic Installation

Select Standard.  Click Next.

Select the disks to include in your array.  Click Next.

Choose RAID0, RAID5 or RAID6 and click Next.  This sets up your array.  I chose to abort the installation here and leave SimplyRAID in place, but this looks like a really easy way to configure RAID options.

Let’s check into basic networking options.  Click the Lacie icon in the top left of the screen and select Network from the menu.

This tab shows that both LAN connectors picked up IP a addresses and are both available.  The 5big supports link aggregation, and I’ll test that in a future post.  For now, we’ll leave both network interface ports as connected as separate IP addresses.

Let’s check and make sure that our firmware is up to date.  Click on the Lacie icon and select Support.

Updating is set to AUTO-Update and the firmware is up to date.  Click on the Arrow icon to force an update check.

Next up, we’ll set up email notifications.  Click the Edit icon to the right of E-mail Notifications.
