Bedlam is adapted from the novel by Christopher Brookmyre, but diverges from the original in this change of protagonist. The novel’s hero, Ross Baker, does feature prominently in the game, but the switch to a female lead – who is a gamer and sci-fi fan – offered a fresh and bitingly humorous new perspective upon the “gameverse” that the player will explore.

Brookmyre explains his love for first person shooters and why Bedlam was a great opportunity to create a self-aware shooter with nods to games past and present. With an interesting take on crossing over games you could find yourself playing an original 2D retro classic in a FPS mode to even using weapons brought over from World War 2 into a sci-fi setting.

Bedlam will be released on PC later this year.
