– New: Better offline mode bar, so you know why you’re offline.
– New: Share music with NFC (Near Field Communication) on ICS.
– New: Check out the Audio Effects on ICS (Settings > Audio Effects).
– Fixed: More crashes and bugs are now history.
– Fictitious: This app likes doing jigsaws on a rainy day.

FireHome-2018_thumb_thumb1_thumb

Here is what is included in this update:

Fixes related to Plex for Android

The first bunch are related to connections to Plex Media Servers. The first two issues in particular were causing some seriously frustrating problems where some people could only get to their media servers when AWAY from home:
FIX an issue where unauthorized remote connections were incorrectly categorized as reachable.
FIX an issue where local connections aren’t chosen over remote connections when detected and reachable.
FIX an issue where sometimes servers would be listed with name of section rather than server.

And some fixes for the newly introduced remote control feature:
FIX remote controlled Androids now properly resume video in progress.
FIX when video started from remote control ends – return back to original view.
FIX when navigating to remote control Loading dialog never dissappears.

And more…
FIX where network logging failed to work on some devices / in some cases.
FIX about a dozen assorted field reported crash conditions.

Extras for Google TV

Google TV users pick up all the fixes above and:
FIX myPlex Queue and Shares now load properly again.
FIX always refresh the last selected flyout when returning to Home – so that you can finally see updates to onDeck and channels and so forth without having to reload the page.

The phone has three buttons on the front – I just spent a few weeks using a Samsung Galaxy S3 so it took me a little time to get used to the buttons being the other way around on this phone.

If you have the Samsung Galaxy Note, you can get an update taking it to Android 4.0.4.

UWHS-Review---Samsung-Galaxy-Note-02[1]

A number of people have reported the update was available to them this week.

So I tapped the Check for Update and got the usual message:

CDW---Samsung-Galaxy-Note-ICS-Update[4]

I thought I would check via KIES as well, I was rewarded with this message:

Galaxy Note firmware - 1

After the update, the Kernal build date shows Mon July 16 and the version of Android at 4.0.4.

Last night in London ZTE announced their next smartphone, the Android 4.0 based ZTE Grand X and we got some hands-on time with it.

CDW - Hands-on with the ZTE Grand X - 1

The ZTE Grand X combines an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core chipset with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The powerful processor delivers fast download speeds and video processing and, combined with the 4.3-inch 16 million colour Sharp screen (960×540) and cinematic surround-sound Dolby Mobile Sound technology, enables the Grand X to provide a compelling mobile entertainment experience.

CDW - Hands-on with the ZTE Grand X - 2 CDW - Hands-on with the ZTE Grand X - 3CDW - Hands-on with the ZTE Grand X - 4 CDW - Hands-on with the ZTE Grand X - 5

The phone is very lightweight and fits nicely into the palm of your hand. It has rounded corners and a textured back.

CDW - Hands-on with the ZTE Grand X - 6 CDW - Hands-on with the ZTE Grand X - 7

The phone comes with 4GB of internal memory and this can easily be expanded using MicroSD.

CDW - Hands-on with the ZTE Grand X - 8 CDW - Hands-on with the ZTE Grand X - 9

The rear camera works pretty well (it was a rather dark area we were in with lots of people taking pictures of it so I expect the camera to perform better in a real world situation) and the front camera is ok, but then you are not likely to take pictures you want to keep with the front one, are you?

CDW - Hands-on with the ZTE Grand X - 10 CDW - Hands-on with the ZTE Grand X - 11

The sound quality is good – it utilises Dolby Mobile Sound.

CDW - Hands-on with the ZTE Grand X - 12 CDW - Hands-on with the ZTE Grand X - 13

Overall I found the phone to be fast and responsive with a bright and clear screen – I look forward to trying it out properly. Expect our full review soon.
