Bohemia Interactive, the award-winning independent Czech development studio, announces the release of the turn-based close-combat strategy game Arma Tactics to compatible IOS devices.
Following on from the highly successful launch of Arma Tactics on NVIDIA Tegra HD devices, Bohemia Interactive is delighted to announce that Arma Tactics will now launch on compatible IOS systems and is available from Apple’s iTunes Store (£4.99 /£2.99).
Arma Tactics takes the best from the popular strategy genre… and goes mobile. The finest assets used in the critically acclaimed Arma series on PC now come to life on the Apple IOS platform, in one of the best looking mobile games to date.
Arma Tactics is a turn-based close-combat strategy game, where the player takes control of a four-member Special Forces team. There are no given strategies, rails to move on, or paths to follow; it‘s up to the player to decide how he will play through both the story-driven missions and generated missions with randomized objectives. Whether using stealth or a more direct approach, players will need to use their strategic thinking and use both basic and advanced weaponry while facing many different opponents – ranging from unorganized local militia to smart and skilled mercenaries.
iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 6.0 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.

I have been a long time fan of the iPhone, and when the iPhone 4S was released two weeks ago I picked one up. I have now been using it for two weeks and thought I would share some thoughts and experiences of it.
Siri is one of the big new features only available on the iPhone 4S (today). Siri enables you to get things done by just asking – for example, you can say you want to add a calendar event or send a text message.
By default Siri is switched off, so you have to enable “him” or “her”.
Here in the UK we get a Male voice, where as in the US they have the option of a Female voice. You can change it by changing your language setting to English (United States) but then the software looks for certain words and ways of speaking – certain things I asked didn’t work as well when set to US as apposed to UK.
Siri works quite well, when it works. I cant tell you the number of times it hasn’t worked, or given me some bizarre response.
That being said, the programmers have a real sense of humour and have some responses available to the obvious questions:
Oh where do I start???
Having used an iPhone 4 for well over a year, I could get a full days use of it, including having certain location services enabled, and my email accounts set to Push my emails to the phone.
So given that Apple were promising at least an hour additional battery life out of the iPhone 4S I was somewhat surprised how quickly my battery was going down, even when I wasn’t actually doing anything.
It was quite unnerving just sitting watching the battery remaining percentage literally tick down in front of my eyes. I was getting about half a day out of the battery and not actually using the phone that much at all.
For the first time in a very long time I saw the dreaded red battery logo and my phone shut down.
Needless to say I wasn’t very happy.
I did some quick research and noticed that I wasn’t the only person having this problem.
Some people were saying it was expected as the 4S has a more powerful processor (ok, but Apple said it had at least an hours MORE battery, not LESS).
Others advised turning off various services – ok, I thought, I can do that.
So I turned off a few things and the battery still went down quickly.
In the end I had to turn off the following just to get a “working” day’s use of the phone (at that’s not even using the phone that much as an actual phone):
- all Location Services
- Push email
- and a few other things
so basically I have to turn off most of the functionality that makes having an iPhone worth having. Basically I am almost back to having just “a phone to make phone calls”.
So Apple, hurry up and release a fix already!
So, the question I get asked the most at the moment is “was it worth upgrading from the iPhone 4”? Well, to be honest, the answer today is No, it wasn’t. At least, not today. The battery issue is frustrating me the most. I’m not seeing significant improvement in the speeds (although I am seeing some) and while Siri is fun for a but, ultimately right now, here in the UK, it’s not that much use.
I am happy with the camera functionality (not that I use the camera that much, but it’s certainly nice to have it available), plus the HD video shooting capability is great.
If you have an iPhone 3 or 3GS, then it certainly is worth upgrading – no question about it.
I assume that Apple will release an update at some point soon to fix the battery issues, they always do.
Don’t get me wrong, I am happy with the 4S, I’m just not as happy as I could be…..

What’s in the Box?
The box contains the cassette case stand and the silicon case for the iPhone.

Fitting the iPhone into the Case
It is very simple to fit the iPhone into the silicon case – no real effort is required. All the required speaker holes and buttons are in the case as well.
Connect a set of headphones is easy as well – just plug them in!
Using as a Stand
You can use the cassette case as a stand – just drop you iPhone into the case and that’s it.
If you are as old as me, then you will have very fond memories of cassette tapes – either because you made mix tapes or because that’s what we used to use to load computer games.
When this case and stand crossed my path I couldn’t help but smile!
It’s a cool little case and using the cassette case as a stand as well is genius.
The cost is only £12.99 so it will make a great Christmas stocking filler (yes, Christmas, it’s not that far away!). There is also a version for the iPhone 3 as well.

Today saw the launch of the new Apple iPhone 4S. And here is our unboxing.
The box is the usual Apple iPhone box.
And the contents are the usual – the iPhone, a set of earphones, a cable, and manual and a plug.

Comparing the iPhone 4S to the iPhone 4
The phones are the same size, and feel roughly the same weight.
The mute button on the 4S is slightly lower than the 4, which might cause some issues with certain cases, so if you are upgrading you might want to check your current case out!
Right, I’m off to fire the 4S up and give her a test! More soon….
Have you ever wished you had a portable keyboard for your iPhone 4? Well now you can with the NUU MiniKey, which is a case and a keyboard all rolled into one.
Who are NUU?
From their website:
NUU is a quality driven consumer products brand, dedicated to delivering innovative and functional products that are integrated into all aspects of our consumers lives. Our commitment to making significant strides in the areas of research and design, combined with our use of quality materials, means that we can deliver truly unique Smart phone accessories to our valued consumers.
The NUU MiniKey
Tired of typos when using your iPhone 4 on-screen keyboard? Type faster and more accurately with the NUU MiniKey. Whether you’re texting, e-mailing or blogging, the NUU MiniKey is a great alternative to using the on-screen keyboard. Simply snap your
iPhone 4 in the case, slide the keyboard out and type away!
The NUU MiniKey conserves battery life by breaking the BT connection to the
keyboard when it is left idle for ten minutes. When idle simply slide out the keyboard to wake the NUU MiniKey and reconnect the devices.
The MiniKey has its own separate power source, so it won’t drain your iPhone
battery! The built-in rechargeable battery connects with an included micro-USB cable. A status LED shows you when the keyboard is charging or low on power.
The MiniKey’s case features a series of carefully-positioned metal springs that
connect your iPhone antenna to the case’s metal backing, allowing it to become one with the antenna. This connection compensates for the reduction in signal strength so common to other products on the market. The springs are flexible and will not scratch your iPhone casing.
BENEFITS OF USING THE NUU MiniKey
QWERTY Keyboard – Enjoy greater typing speed and accuracy than you could from using the on-screen keyboard. Perfect for blogging and e-mailing, or if you just prefer something
tactile on which to type.
Larger Screen Area – By eliminating the need for the on-screen keyboard, the NUU MiniKey allows for the screen’s viewable area to double while typing.
Navigation Keys – The navigation keys allow you to locate a particular spot on your composition with greater ease than you would by using the touch-screen. Use these with the Command and shift keys for even greater keyboard functionality.
Function Key Symbols– Stop looking through keyboard screens for the symbol you want! The MiniKey has a range of common symbols which can be typed quickly and easily at a
press of the function keys.
Brilliant Backlight – The backlit keyboard makes typing in poorly-lit areas a breeze. The backlight may be toggled on or off to suit your own preference.
Keyboard Shortcuts – Quickly and easily edit text on your iPhone 4 with shortcuts such as Command + C to copy, Command + V to paste, Command Z to undo.
Convenient Toggle Button – Toggle button allows for smooth switching between the physical QWERTY MiniKey and the on-screen keyboard.
• Compatible with iPhone 4
• 42 key slide out keyboard with backlight
• Broadcom Chipset (Bluetooth V2.0 Compliance)
- Charges in 3-4 hours with Micro-USB cable
- Li-Polymer (380mAh)
What’s in the Box?
Along with the NUU MiniKey is some paperwork and a micro-USB cable.

The specifics for the iPhone 4 case:
The OtterBox Reflex Series case for iPhone 4 is compact and lightweight yet inside incorporates revolutionary, rule-defying technology. Surrounding your iPhone 4 with a cushion of air and inspired by the crumple zone of a car, this case can take a hit and keep your precious phone as good as the day you got it. Plus, you’ll love how easily the Reflex Series snaps apart for convenient docking access! Find maximum OtterBox protection in the smallest, most slim fitting form.
Using the Reflex Case
The case easily comes apart and then you just slide your iPhone into one end, and then fit the other part of the case.
Putting the iPhone 4 into the case was very simple, and I felt that the case held the iPhone well.
It certainly felt protecting, and is very hard wearing.
The case is slightly bigger than just a normal case, but that is because of the extra protection. If like me you are used to a smaller case, the Reflex case takes a little getting used to.
The only issue I came across was trying to recharge my iPhone in a dock with the Reflex case still fitted. Half of the time the charging was fine, and the other half I needed to “wiggle” the iPhone to get the charging the start. Again, this is because of the extra bulk of the case.
The cost of the Reflex case is $44.95 and comes in multiple colours.
If you want some added protection for your iPhone, then you should seriously consider taking a long look at the Reflex Series Case.

If you have an iPhone 4 and you find that you never have enough battery power then you need an external battery pack. How about a case with an integrated battery pack? That’s where the juice pack air from mophie comes in.
On a normal day I can usually get away with starting the day with my iPhone 4 fully charged and by the end of the day just charge it again for the next day. However, there are times when I am out and about at events, or on days when I just seem to use the battery much quicker. At those times it can be really frustrating to see that less than 20% battery warning appear along with the red battery icon. That’s usually the point I will turn off various functions and save the battery for an emergency until I get home where I can charge again. I don’t really want to carry around a charging cable and plug so what other options do I have? Well if I still had my iPhone 3GS there are battery cases, battery packs and other things you can buy, but there just aren’t that many yet for the iPhone 4.
Back at IFA in September I spoke with mophie and they were previewing there combined case and battery pack, and then again at CES this year they had it available.
So, here is the UWHS review of the mophie juice pack air.
Here is how mophie describe the juice pack air:
[box style="rounded" border="full"]The juice pack air is a rechargeable external battery concealed inside of a protective form-fitting case for the iPhone 4. It offers you the full protection of a hard-shell case while providing virtually twice the battery life of the iPhone alone; all in an ultra-thin, light-weight, low-profile design.[/box]
The juice pack air comes in three colours – black, white and red. We have the black one which fits in nicely with my iPhone 4.
Who are mophie?
mophie describe themselves on their website:
mophie is a California-based, award-winning designer and manufacturer of mobile intelligent devices and accessories. It is widely recognized and highly acclaimed for its creative designs and innovative solutions. Mophie was the proud developer of the Juice Pack, first ever “Works With iPhone” portable battery case certified by Apple Inc. Back in April we reported about the release of a photo viewer for the iPhone from WD called WD Photos. Now they have updated it to include support for the iPhone 4 and also the iPad – and its still free.
Get quick access to all the photos stored on your My Book Live, My Book World Edition, or
WD ShareSpace network drive using your iPad, iPhone, iPhone 4, or iPod touch.
You need a Western Digital My Book Live home network drive, My Book World Edition home network drive, My Book World Edition II dual-drive network storage, or WD ShareSpace network storage system.
For the iPhone:
And for the iPad:
This app is really cool as it basically turns your iPad into an interactive photo frame. You can download it from the Apple App Store now.
Here is the full press release:
WD PHOTOS™ FREE PHOTO VIEWER APP FOR iPAD™, iPHONE® ACCESSES IMAGES ON WD® NETWORK DRIVES
Update to Photo Viewing Software Turns iPad into the Ultimate Photo Album
WD® (NYSE: WDC), the world’s leader in external storage solutions, today announced WD Photos™ (photo), the newest release of its photo viewer app (photo), which is now optimised for iPad™ and iPhone®4. Available as a free download from iTunes®, the WD Photos app provides remote access to photos stored on a WD network hard drive including My Book® World Edition™, and WD ShareSpace™. The images are displayed in native iPad and iPhone resolution, and users can access up to 285,000 of their favourite photos anywhere they can access the Internet by simply copying their pictures into the “Shared Pictures” folder on their WD network hard drive. The WD Photos photo viewer app offers a variety of new features that allow users to stay connected to more of their digital photos, including:
- Pinch and zoom functionality so consumers can digitally zoom on the displayed photo;
- Horizontal split view for iPad;
- Option to instantly post photos from the WD Photos app to users’ Facebook® wall;
- New slideshow transitions including pan and zoom, page curl, and cube;
- Increased 5 GB capacity to support iPad’s larger memory and higher resolution;
- iPad full screen support at 1024×768; and,
- iPhone HD/OS 3 & 4 support.
WD Photos photo viewer app, optimised for iPad and other leading Apple mobile devices, fulfils the growing demand to view, store, and consolidate photos on the go. With over 2 million iPads sold as of May 31, 2010 (Apple®), the iPad has been embraced enthusiastically by consumers to access and share their digital content.
Although digital photo viewing is not new, research firm Parks Associates says the practice is still on the rise. According to a recent Parks survey, 68 percent of broadband households viewed digital photos at least monthly in 2009, compared to 59 percent in 2006 (Parks Associates: Consumer Storage Opportunities 2010). Combining the centralised storage and remote access benefits of WD’s network drives with the iPad is a natural fit with this rapidly growing consumer behaviour.
“Viewing pictures on an iPad is a great experience. WD Photos leverages the iPad’s beautiful multi-touch screen to enable truly intuitive navigation of thousands of photos. With our application, consumers can share a lifetime of photos right from their sofa without worrying about which photos to sync or how they’re organised. With access to up to 285,000 photos stored on a WD network drive, users can have instant access to all their photos wherever they are,” said Dale Pistilli, vice president of marketing for WD’s branded products group.
WD Photos Photo Compatibility
Available for download now at the Apple® iTunes Store®, WD Photos photo viewer app is compatible with iPad, iPhone, iPhone 4, and iPod touch® and works with My Book World Edition, My Book World Edition II, WD ShareSpace, and My Book Live. Users must register with WD’s free, secure MioNet® remote access service to use the WD Photos photo viewer app.
WD, one of the storage industry’s pioneers and long-time leaders, provides products and services for people and organisations that collect, manage and use digital information. The company designs and produces reliable, high-performance hard drives and solid state drives that keep users’ data accessible and secure from loss. This press release contains forward-looking statements, including statements relating to expected growth in consumer demands for electronics devices. If you do a lot of driving you probably have a satnav – if you have an iPhone why not combine the two. That’s where the new TomTom app for the iPhone comes in.
I do a lot of driving for both work and when visiting people, and if I am going somewhere that I have never been to before I like to use my satnav. Over the years I have had different satnavs from TomTom, Navigon and others – in fact my current satnav is from Navigon.
The biggest problem I have with it is the time it takes to find and lock on to the satellites – sometimes taking up to 20 minutes (and according to Navigon that is perfectly normal).
So rather than buy another satnav, I figured I would try the app for the iPhone and see if that was any good – especially considering that is a lot cheaper than buying a whole device.
WHAT ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS?
New, updated maps
Because on average 15% of roads change every year, your TomTom app comes with the latest and most up-to-date map, ready to navigate. No mobile signal or data plan is required to browse your map and navigate to your destination.
Get the most up-to-date, real-time traffic information for your route live on your TomTom app. Includes detailed incident reports, estimated delay times and alternative route proposals (Available via in app purchase).
Advanced Lane Guidance
Clearly shows which lane to take at junctions so you don’t miss your turning. On the most difficult highway intersections, realistic 3D representation of the junction keeps you relaxed and safe.
IQ Routes™ technology
Only TomTom uses actual speed data collected from millions of users to calculate the fastest routes at any point in time. Imagine a route that takes into account rush hour, traffic lights, zebra crossings, school exits or even shopping crowds, every minute of every day. That’s how smart IQ Routes is!
You can learn more about the benefits of TomTom here.
If you have an iPhone 4 or 3GS then you can use the turn-by-turn functionality as those models have built in GPS, if you have an older model then you will need to buy the TomTom car kit.
I have an iPhone 4 so I don’t need the car kit for that functionality.
BUYING THE APP
Buying the app is just the same as buying any app for the iPhone – you have to do it through the Apple App Store.
Do a search in the app store for TomTom and you will be shown everything that is available.
In my case, I wanted the UK & Ireland maps (the application is the same, but you need to make sure you choose the maps you want).
So I paid for the app and waited for the download – which was a little over 350 MB.
Once it had download I just connected up my iPhone 4 and waited for it to sync.
STARTING THE APP
On your iPhone you will have a new entry for the software – in my case UK – Ireland.
Just tap it to launch.
The first time you are asked if it could use your current location – I found this quite amusing – if you said no how would be able to use the functionality you just paid for?
Then you have the usual legal notices which you must agree to otherwise again you can’t use it!
