FireCore have released an update to Seas0nPass which finally brings with it support for untethered jailbreak of iOS 5.1.1.

Seas0nPass_thumb1

Here is what they said:

Today we are happy to release a brand new version of Seas0nPass that provides an untethered jailbreak of the latest 5.0.1 (iOS 5.1.1) software for the 2nd gen Apple TV. Massive thanks goes to @pod2g and Co. for the countless hours that went into making this new release possible.

What about the new 3rd gen Apple TV?

Unfortunately Seas0nPass is not yet compatible with the new ATV3. Work is still ongoing and we’lll be sure to announce any and all news as soon as it becomes available.

Which plugins are currently supported on 5.0.1?

  • Couch Surfer (works)
  • Last.fm (works)
  • Maintenance (works)
  • Media Player (works)
  • NitoTV (works)
  • Plex (works)
  • RSS Feeds (works)
  • Rowmote (works)
  • Weather (works)
  • XBMC (works)
  • Overflow (not working)
  • Remote HD (not working)

As always, Seas0nPass is available as a free download from Seas0nPass.com.

Last year we told you about a service from ChevronWP7 Labs that enabled you to unlock your Windows Phone. The “experiment” now comes to an end.

Chevron_thumb1_thumb

This is what they just posted:

So, you may recall that ChevronWP7 Labs sold about 10,000 developer-unlock tokens in a matter of two months. Working with Microsoft over the past few months, we finished analyzing the resulting data.

The goal of this experiment was two-fold: First, to determine if we could supercharge the Windows Phone beginner/hobbyist community by removing the initial cost barrier (i.e. App Hub membership.) And second, to convert potential developers into published developers.

While we kicked butt on the former, the latter didn’t work out so well. Our data indicates that most developers simply unlocked their devices for non-developmental reasons and never went all the way to publish an app in the marketplace. There was also some confusion about the actual purpose of the ChevronWP7 service – some folks thought we provided SIM-unlock capabilities, while others thought we were a hacker group providing full root access. On top of this, there were a larger than expected number of support emails.

As a result, both sides amicably agreed to discontinue the ChevronWP7 Labs experiment.

Fear not, we will continue to explore other ideas with Microsoft. All sides are still very interested in the hobbyist and homebrew developer communities.

As a thank you gift, courtesy of Microsoft, we will be offering paid ChevronWP7 Labs users a free upgrade to a one-year membership of Windows Phone App Hub.

Users who wish to take advantage of this will need to sign up with the same Live ID as their ChevronWP7 Labs account and complete App Hub account registration with a credit card. (Your purchase will then be refunded shortly after.) More details on this below.

All of us involved – Rafael Rivera, Chris Walsh, Long Zheng and the Windows Phone team at Microsoft — are very proud to have been able to bring the ChevronWP7 Labs experiment to fruition and are excited for what the future holds.

This is a real shame, and to be honest I see it as a bit of setback for the hobbyist community, but I can also completely understand why they chose to do this.

Did you use the service? What do you think about the decision?

Today saw the release of aTV Flash (black) version 1.4 for the 2nd generation AppleTV.

atv_flash_black_thumb3_thumb_thumb_t

Here is what Firecore said:

Wow, what a week! We had quite a few exciting announcements yesterday from Apple, not the least of which was a brand-new, 1080p capable AppleTV. We are uber excited about this new model and already have a handful of test units on order. Better hardware usually lends itself to better software, and the AppleTV should be no exception. Keep reading for more information on what all this means for you as well as your current aTV Flash (black) license.

What does the new AppleTV 3 offer? Should I upgrade?

At this point, it appears the only real difference between the ATV2 and ATV3 is the video resolution. The ATV2 has a max resolution of 720p, whereas the ATV3 supports 1080p. There may be new features introduced in the future that will be ATV3 only, but for now unless you’re playing 1080p content you will not see much of a difference between the two models. The new menu layout that was demoed yesterday by Apple on the ATV3 will also be available on the ATV2.

What about the new 5.0 software? Can I update my AppleTV?

aTV Flash (black) is currently only compatible with AppleTV versions 4.2 – 4.4.4, and if you update you lose will your jailbreak and FireCore added features. However, if you have saved firmware signatures you can easily downgrade the AppleTV software at any time, so feel free to update to 5.0 and check it out.

Will aTV Flash (black) be compatible?

The short answer is: Yes! There will undoubtedly be a few obstacles to overcome in order to get everything up to speed, but based on our past experiences and progress thus far we’re confident we can put the pieces in place to make it happen.

Once an updated version is ready we’ll be rolling these changes into an aTV Flash (black) update, which will result in a universal application that is compatible with both the ATV2 and ATV3. The best part is users of aTV Flash (black) will be able to install it on either model without having to pay any extra fees.

That all sounds great, but what’s new in aTV Flash (black) 1.4?

Last, but certainly not least, we have a new version of aTV Flash (black) available today to help tide you over until the new models arrive. Full details on what’s included in version 1.4 can be found below.

Does it still have that special something, or has multi-format release diluted its charm?
