In addition,  we added a security enhancement that allows encrypting files and folders names that in some cases can reveal highly confidential information and must be strongly protected.

And finally the French language has been added to over a dozen languages we supported already.

The new release comes with few important enhancements.

1. Rackspace Cloud Files and OpenStack Object Storage support. This is a new storage option in addition to Amazon S3, Azure, Google, etc for those who already have Rackspace and other OpenStack compatible accounts.

With this feature for instance, you can set the backup to consume all available bandwidth during the off hours and on the weekends while consume only 10% of available bandwidth during the working hours allowing you to use the network for other tasks.

Microsoft have created a Windows Small Business Server Migration Portal which provides links to information and tools that help guide you through the process of migrating to SBS 2011.

SBSGenericLogo-576

This is what Microsoft said:

This latest enhancement to the Windows SBS migration information experience is designed to provide quick access to a broad spectrum of migration guides, tools, and community knowledge that can help guide you through the process of migrating from your current version of Windows SBS to a more recent version of the product, or to a new or significantly modified computer.

This portal does not mark the end of the work to be done in this area. Oh no. We are always learning, always evolving, always improving. And thanks to your passion, experience, and involvement, we like to think that your voices lend beautiful harmonies to our work. Or is that the other way around? Either way, we hope you find the Migration Portal helpful.

The AWIECO WakeOnLAN add-in for Windows Home Server 2011 and Small Business Server 2011 Essentials is a free and useful add-in, which has the ability to remotely turn on a computer. It enables the Server to start up every computer attached to your network. You can also power off a computer out of the Launchpad. The gadget on the WHS or SBS web-interface shows a list of all available and connected computers within your network and provides the possibility to start them up from any location inside your network or via internet, by just one mouse click. You can add further computers to your network manually by entering the MAC address or even delete them. The add-in automatically recognises if a computer is already turned on or if it is booting up.
