Today at the CES 2014 Lenovo, announced the third generation ThinkPad X1 Carbon, the world’s lightest 14 inch ultrabook and the ThinkPad 8 tablet. Lenovo also introduces the new ThinkPad OneLink Dock Pro, an enhanced docking solution through a single cable connector.

The new ThinkPad OneLink Pro Dock combines all necessary docking features and functions, including power, through a single cable connection to Lenovo notebooks equipped with an OneLink connector. With the same serial number as the original tablet, the replacement makes it easy for businesses to track and manage leased products.

Models of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon start at $1299 and availability will begin late January. The OneLink Dock Pro is available now at $179.

Today Lenovo has launched the ThinkPad S531 Ultrabook, a Windows 8 machine aimed at the business market. The PC features a 15.6-inch display that can be laid flat at 180 degrees, and is powered by an  Intel 3rd Generation Ivy Bridge processor.

Lenovo claims that the machine offers a 15% boost over its predecessor, the ThinkPad S431, despite missing out on Intel’s next-generation Haswell chip.

Other features include a backlit keyboard, USB 3.0, and support for up to 10GB of memory and 500GB of storage space.

The ThinkPad S531 is not equipped with touchscreen functionality, with users required to navigate Windows 8 with a five-button glass click pad, but it is said to be fully spill-resistant.

The ThinkPad S531 is available to purchase now for £575 excluding VAT.

Acer presents the next-generation 13.3-inch Aspire S7Ultrabook. The new S7 Ultrabook has improved battery life for all-day computing, a refined electroluminescent (EL) backlit keyboard for more natural  typing, and 2nd generation Acer TwinAir cooling with less fan noise.  In addition, it is equipped with wireless display (WiDi) technology for big-screen  entertainment and productivity.acer-aspire-s7 2
“We designed the S7 to be the best touch Ultrabook  in the world, bar none,” said Jim Wong, Acer Corporate President. “We listened  carefully to users to find substantial ways to make it even better.” The re-engineered  S7 delivers improved battery life of up to 7 hours, a 33% increase from its  predecessor. Its new light-sensing EL backlit keyboard is also refined, with a deeper  keystroke for more natural and comfortable typing. Plus, thanks to 2nd generation Acer TwinAir cooling technology, the noise at maximum load is more  than 20% lower than the previous S7, keeping the system quiet and cool.

Acer’s new S7 supports Intel WiDi  technology, which allows users to extend their laptop screen to a TV or big  screen without a cable. With this feature, S7 users can stream video on their  living room screen and open a new window on their computer and to work, bringing  a new dimension to multitasking.

The Aspire S7-392 features Acer’s  first 10-point touch WQHD display  will also be available on the S7, with IPS  technology squeezing a very impressive 2,560×1,440 resolution into a 13.3-inch  screen. All configurations are available with a choice of touch or non-touch screens. To make typing easier and more comfortable, all V5 models include a full size backlit keyboard with an 8 percent larger key cap area (15mm) than previous generation V5 notebooks.

Looks like Sony is working on a hybrid computer with a ‘SurfSlider’ design that runs the Windows 8 operating system. The 13-inch touchscreen device was first glimpsed in a grainy training video, but has since appeared in a series of press photographs, Engadget reports.

The Ultrabook comes with a 1080p Triluminos touchscreen, an Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD.

Other features include stylus support, ActiveSleep, 10 hours of battery power, NFC technology, a backlit keyboard, Clear Audio+, and an 8-megapixel Exmor RS camera sensor.

Users can slide the device’s display over its physical keyboard to use it as a tablet, or click it back upright so that it functions like a traditional laptop PC.

Sony has been tipped to release the machine under the Vaio banner, but pricing and a release date are yet to be announced.

Sony has refreshed its Vaio line of computers with the addition of the Fit series. The new laptops are aimed at business users and students who are after a “premium design” at an “entry-level” price.

With a $649 (£417) price tag, the Fit 14 comes with a display resolution of 1600×900 pixels, aluminium coating, touchscreen support and NFC technology.

The Fit 15 offers a 1080p display at the higher cost of $699 (£449), and the line also includes the Fit E budget alternatives.

Coming with either a 14- or 15-inch display, the Fit E laptops feature a screen with a lower 1366×768 resolution and retail at $547 (£351) and $579 (£372) respectively.

Sony has also given a specs boost to some of its existing Vaio machines, with the L Series receiving the Bravia Engine X-Reality processor and expanded hard drive space of up to 3TB.

The 15-inch T Series Ultrabook and Tap 20 hybrid device have also been given incremental upgrades.

Sony’s Vaio Fit laptops will be available in mid-May.

At a press event held today in New York, Acer unveiled an updated and slimmed down V5 Series of notebooks and also introduced the powerful new V7 Ultrabook. Samsung today announced two additions to its high performance Series 7 PC lineup: the enhanced Series 7 Chronos, which delivers professional performance in a thin and light form factor, and the Series 7 Ultra, which takes Ultrabooks to the next level with enriched computing power, graphics and touch capability.
